Spreewald Light

My work begins with colour, water and quiet movement.

I create colourful, modern illustrations, paintings and prints inspired by family life, nature and everyday moments that deserve to be remembered.

My studio is located in the Spreewald, surrounded by forests and quiet waterways. Light on the water, the changing seasons and small still moments flow directly into the way I paint.

Many pieces begin not with a subject, but with an observation: a morning window, a bridge, a plant against the light, a table where someone pauses for a moment. A series grows out of that.

That is why I rarely think in isolated images. I care about how pieces speak to each other and what kind of atmosphere they build once they enter a real room.

Motherhood

Then I became a mother, and rooms changed meaning.

I began to see homes not only as interiors, but as atmospheres. Rooms shape how children discover the world, how families gather and how everyday memories stay visible.

That question guides my work now: does this room feel warm, welcoming and alive?

That is why I do not think in isolated images, but in lived situations. A piece should not only look good on a wall. It should soften a kitchen, personalise a hallway or make a children's room feel gentler.

When I develop a piece, I often imagine its place already: above a chest of drawers, near a dining table, at a child's eye level or in a small bathroom that would otherwise stay too functional.

Partner craft

From the studio into an object that can stay in a room.

For the framed edition I connect my work from the Spreewald with Hahnemühle Albrecht Dürer paper, museum glass and solid wood frames from Mende Frames in Schönewalde.

I am not interested in anonymous product stock. I care about how colour, material and proportion come together as a calm object on the wall.

The frame is therefore not an accessory. It is part of the decision. Only when artwork, glass and profile work together does the piece feel complete in a room.

I choose the framing as part of each series and with the final setting in mind: lighter and softer for children's rooms, clearer and more graphic for bathrooms, warmer and calmer for living spaces and hallways.

What I make

Art for real homes, not perfect rooms.

In my shop you will find colourful landscapes, feel-good wall art, expressive portraits and carefully made framed prints. Each piece is created to bring colour, calm and emotional warmth into everyday life.

The framed edition connects art from the Spreewald with Hahnemühle Albrecht Dürer paper and Mende Frames from Schönewalde.

When someone orders through Etsy, I do not want a print to arrive as a detached product. I want a finished object with a clear origin that settles naturally into a real home.

I do not paint for perfect showrooms. I make art for rooms where people cook, read, play, tidy up, celebrate and rest.

With love,
Miriam (Aila Kischka)
